Vietnam book and Reading culture day 2022 and “My favorite book contest” award

Responding to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day, the Hanoi University of Civil Engineering - HUCE held the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day ceremony and the "My favorite book contest" award on April 21, 2022. The contest was launched by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the HUCE’s Library.

Overview of the ceremony

Attending the ceremony were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Xuan Anh – Vice Rector; Dr. Nguyen Trung Thanh – Director of the Library; Representatives of the Youth Union, Student Union and leaders of units in the University. On the guest side, there were MSc. Do Tien Thanh - Representative of the Executive Board of the Bookcase Program of NUCE and Alumni of Class 42th of NUCE.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Deputy Head of the organizing committee of the contest gave the opening speech. He emphasized the role of books as well as the meaning and importance of reading culture in the renovation and development of the country in current civilization, especially in improving the quality of teaching and studying of HUCE.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Anh - Head of the Organizing Committee congratulated the contest on a great success, thereby affirming the position, role and importance of books in improving knowledge, skills, development of thinking, education and training of human personality. It is pivotal to encourage and promote the reading movement and create a favorable environment to build the habit of reading books wherever and whenever contributing to the development of a learning society. He congratulated students who won prizes in the contest with good, meaningful, and creative articles. Those winners are expected to be the ambassador to spread their interest in reading books and extensive reading to relatives, friends and society. The head of organizers also sent his best wishes to those who do works related to books and thanked the units in the university as well as the Bookcase Program HUCE for participating and accompanying the University's activities on the occasion of the celebration of Vietnam book and Reading culture day.

Although the contest took place during the peak period of the semester exam review, it has received a significant response from readers who are students of HUCE. Submitted articles are real thoughts and feelings for the favorite books of contestants. Organizers also received innovative and appealing short clips aiming at showing their profound feelings for their beloved books. That illustrates great delights in reading books of the students of HUCE – a pretigous university in the engineering sector but not inferior to the social universities.

The Organizing Committee has selected and agreed to award 02 First prizes, including 01 First prize in the prose category, 01 First prize in the short clip category (Podcast), 03 Second prizes, 03 Third prizes, 05 Consolation prizes, and 01 Prize to honor the contestant with the most online votes. The winners were very excited, and deeply thanked the teachers of HUCE for organizing such a very useful and meaningful contest for students.

As per the enthusiastic response of readers to the very first event held in the University, the Organizing Committee wishes that this event will be held annually and become a useful playground for students who are keen on reading. Thereby, it contributes to improving the reading culture as well as the quality of Education and Training of HUCE
